Scarring

Symptoms
of Scarring
Scars do not
all look similar. In most cases, they
are flat and pale in appearance. However,
if the body produces excess collagen,
scars can be raised (keloid scars and
hypertrophic scars). This is observed
more commonly in young individuals or
those with dark skin tones. Surgical
scars and acne scars often have a sunken
or pitted appearance because of the
loss of underlying tissue. Scars can
also have wavelike or stretchy appearances,
and scars caused by pregnancy are examples
of this. Some scars can be itchy, red
in appearance, and lead to uneven texture
of the skin. Over time, the redness
fades and the scar may become darker
or lighter in color. Not all scars fade
away with time. Some scars are permanent.
Natural Cures
Scars cannot
be completely removed, but their appearance
can be significantly improved. Try some
of the following natural remedies to
improve the appearance of scars.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is
believed to heal wounds faster by decreasing
collagen generation, fibroblast proliferation,
and reducing inflammation. Vitamin E
oil can be applied topically and it
is easily absorbed by skin cells. It
has a hydrating effect on the scars
and it softens them to improve the appearance
of the scar.
Herbal remedies
Here are
a few herbal remedies that have a healing
effect on scars:
 |
Use
the gel of an aloe vera plant and
smear it onto the scar to improve
the condition of the skin. This
remedy can also be used for older
scars. |

Prepare an ointment
using calendula herb and apply it
onto surgical scars. Heat one quarter
of one cup of coconut butter in
a sauce pan and mix one cup of fresh
calendula blossoms (including leaves
and stems). Continue heating this
concoction until it foams. Turn
off the heat, cover the mixture,
and let it sit overnight. On the
next day, warm the pan and use cheesecloth
to press the juices of the herb.
Add five teaspoons of almond oil
to this mixture and store this herbal
remedy in the refrigerator. Apply
the ointment thickly onto the scarred
area, cover it with a sterile cotton
bandage, and leave it in place.
Replace the cloth everyday or as
often as needed. Use the leftover
herbal pulp to prepare a soothing
hot poultice and apply it topically. |
Lavender
Several
essential oils can assist the healing
process of any wound and prevent scarring.
Lavender should be used around new wounds
because it has antiseptic and antimicrobial
properties that contribute to fighting
infection. It also helps the body to
heal quickly by helping the body to
regenerate new cells. Scarring can be
prevented if the wound heals quickly.
To heal a fresh wound or cut, clean
the area with two cups of warm water
mixed with five drops of lavender and
three drops of tea tree oil. This will
help to clean and disinfect the wound
and prevent infection. Afterwards, cover
the wound with a band aid or a gauze
piece on which two to three drops of
lavender oil have been applied. Repeat
this process for two to three days.
