Tonsillitis

Natural Cures

Some of the recommended self-care techniques for curing tonsillitis are obtaining adequate rest, drinking warm, soothing liquids such as soup, broth, and tea, and gargling with warm salt water. Here are a few natural cures that can be used to alleviate the symptoms of tonsillitis.

Soothing beverages

Because the tonsils are inflamed, swallowing foods and even liquids is extremely painful. However, consider drinking the following concoctions to coat the inflamed tonsils with healing components.

Mix three parts of fresh carrot juice with one part of beet juice and one part of cucumber juice. This blend is believed to be beneficial for treating tonsillitis.
Stir one teaspoon of honey and one teaspoon of lemon juice in a glass of hot water. Allow this mixture to cool down slightly and sip it while it is still warm. The honey coats and soothes your throat and the vitamin C in lemon helps to reduce mucus production.

Mix one half of a teaspoon of salt in eight ounces of warm water, gargle, and spit out the water. You can also mix in a pinch of turmeric powder as turmeric is renowned for its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Alternatively, simmer two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in two pints or one liter of water for approximately 30 minutes. Set the mixture aside so that the seeds steep and the mixture cools down. Strain and gargle.

Herbal remedies

Several herbal remedies and treatments can be used to reduce inflammation as well as boost and stimulate the immune system. These may also reduce the length of the recovery period and help you recover from tonsillitis sooner.

Nasturtium is an antibiotic, thyme boosts the immunity, and sage has anti-inflammatory action. Prepare an herbal tea with two tablespoons of nasturtium, one tablespoon of thyme, and one tablespoon of sage. Drink this healing tea three times each day until the symptoms of tonsillitis subside.
Another suggestion is to combine two teaspoons of sage, one teaspoon of lavender, and one teaspoon of peppermint. Steep this mixture in one cup of boiling water for 15 minutes. Strain and drink this herbal tonic a couple of times each day throughout the duration of the infection.
Prepare herbal teas using chamomile or cleavers herb to relieve the inflammation in the tonsils.

Garlic

Garlic is often praised as the miracle herb that possesses antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. If the strong odor of raw garlic is intolerable, consider consuming garlic capsules three times each day.
